Dan Torres learnt to hand-wind pickups from the legendary C.O. "Doc" Kauffman, Leo Fender's original partner. So we’re really excited to be able to offer you this impressive range of hand-wound guitar pickups, made in his shop in San Mateo. All the detail, quality, tone and attention of other expensive boutique made pickups but you save ££££s. |
All single coil pickups are 100% hand wound (called "scatter wound") on new fiber coils with hand selected Alnico V (Alnico 5) cylindrical magnets, hand-set eyelets for the wiring, random-wound, hand-guided (at slow speed) with the RIGHT gauge formvar copper wire, and each pickup is wax-potted by hand in paraffin wax.
Hand wound pickups, wound and potted correctly are less likely to be noisy or microphonic.
You can buy single pickups or matched sets. All pickup sets include RWRP (reverse wound, reverse polarity) pickups for noise reduction - no extra charge. |

The Very Vintage pickup has the lowest signal output giving incredible clarity and detail, along with lots of harmonics.
The Blues pickup is over-wound about 5% more than the very vintage, just enough to get some extra "beef" and punch, with incredible bass response and detailed highs, along with singing midrange and sustain. A really great pickup for the blues and rock player, with all the classic Stratocaster tone, along with warmth, detail and a very satisfying "fat" tone.
Torres Rock model is over wound even more for a real strong punch and great drive without being muddy - a unique and exciting pickup
You can buy single pickup or matched balanced sets. The set is calibrated with the strongest pickup in the bridge, a full toned reverse wind, reverse polarity middle pickup (for noise reduction) and a clean, sweet sounding neck pickup.

All our Telecaster pickups are hand wound with 42 gauge for the bridge and 43 gauge for the neck. Bridge pickups have the metal reflector plate installed and neck pickups have chrome covers for perfect look. |

The tone is warm, rich and clean - with the classic rock rhythm tone so famous from Telecasters. Overall, a super cool, high quality hand-wound pickup.

Telecaster Bridge
You’ll be amazed when you hear the results of the Torres Telecaster bridge.
Careful attention to detail, super high quality magnets, coil form, the correct Telecaster base plate and hand-wound perfection with original "Doc Kauffman" specs make this pickup really, really there.
It has the punch and twang that is so particular to Telecasters with that authorative bass and rich warmth on the highs.

The Very Vintage is clean and twangy - the perfect country and classic clean Telecaster tone.
Torres Blues is punched up for more gain, warmth and sustain, and still retains every bit of the classic Telecaster punch and twang. Very cool stuff. |

Specifications are matched to the best sounding of the old pickups, and all are 100% hand-wound, hand-assembled in the highest detail. Designer Dan Torres has had several vintage real P.A.F. equipped Gibsons since the 1960's - great "bench marks" to listen to!
You get TONE, TONE, TONE! Big and fat, real full with exciting bass response and sweet, singing high end. Output is real strong for all models and sustain is the best there is. Pickups are potted in pure wax.

Torres Very Vintage is the REAL classic Gibson Sound, crisp clean tone, punchy, warm overdrive. - the all-around pickup with singing, smooth character. Also more than terrific for Jazz and clean players. Smooth "Crunchy" breakup and sweet sustain. Grab a set of Very Vintage's for a guitar that is too dark sounding - you will love it!
Torres Bluesmodel duplicating the slight over-wind found on lots of 50's guitars. Tone is warmer, a bit hotter than the Very Vintage but not distorted or muddy tone. Clear, with a warm midrange and lots of sustain. A lot of the most famous players had Vintage Gibsons with pickups that had ACCIDENTIALLY been over-wound to this Blues Spec - stronger, they drive the amp into overdrive a little easier
A favorite for blues and rock players with a great blend of easy overdrive and very good clarity when you back off of the volume control. Also very good for classic Jazz tone in arch top guitars. - that warm, "dusky" smooth tone. Got a guitar that is heavy and bright? - Drop in a calibrated set of Torres Blues or Rock pickups and get that axe's tone HAPPENING!
The Rock model duplicates the tone of the considerably over-wound pickups on old Les Pauls. The guitars with this tone are some of the "standards" for great guitar sound. Tone is real big, fat, with a warm midrange - they DO NOT lose highs as even 9k with 42 gauge wire is not excessive impedance. Lots of output and real singing sustain.
In our matched calibrated sets the bridge pickup is stronger than the neck for a balanced volume level from your guitar's selector switch. Uncovered with 2-conductor wiring.
