We often have other valve types not listed. We can usually obtain other types, particularly unusual vintage valves (generally new old stock). Vintage stock is from various prestigious manufacturers eg. MOV, Mullard, Brimar, RCA etc
We also offer a valve testing service - £1 per valve. This means we can select an existing valve to create a matched pair in most cases


The preamp stages of a guitar amp are where the main tonal colouration takes place. Make sure you've got good valves in here and you'll be half way to the sound you've dreamed of!

The Power or Output stage in a guitar amp generally distorts less easily than the preamp - amplifying the signal generated and coloured in the preamp stage to a level high enough to drive the output transformer and speakers. Putting in good matched pairs of tubes in the output stage, and correctly setting the bias will make your tone clearer, louder, more defined and much more satisfying.

Please Note: When replacing power tubes it is advisable to adjust the bias to the power tubes. There are various ways of doing this - either see Vintage Guitar 9 ‘Bias Notes’, get hold of a copy of ‘Inside Tube Amps’, or we can do it for you.

A note about tube Classes. Just because the Vox AC30 runs EL84 tubes in Class A some people think that EL84 tubes are Class A tubes. Not true. Tubes don’t inherently have a Class. Any audio tube can be run in Class A or AB. The amp’s Class does not reflect the quality of construction in any way and certainly doesn’t mean that the amp is hand wired.
